On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Leprous launched their "An Exclusive Evening with Leprous" tour at The Music Station in Madrid. This event, almost 3 hours long and full of impeccable music, marked their sole performance in Spain and was met with a sold-out crowd, underscoring the band's significant following in the country, organized by Madness Live.

The evening unfolded as a comprehensive exploration of Leprous’s rich musical catalog, spanning their entire career. Fans were treated to early gems like "Passing" from Tall Poppy Syndrome (2009) and "Restless" from Bilateral (2011), as well as fan favorites such as "Foe" from Coal (2013). Tracks like "The Price" and "Slave" from The Congregation (2015), alongside "From the Flame" and "Illuminate" from Malina (2017), carried the audience through the band's evolution. From Pitfalls (2019), the powerful quartet of "Below," "Alleviate," "Distant Bells," and "The Sky Is Red" added emotional weight to the performance.

Selections from their 2021 album Aphelion—including "Out of Here," "On Hold," "Castaway Angels," and "Nighttime Disguise"—captivated the audience with their intricate arrangements. The band also introduced tracks from their latest album, Melodies of Atonement (2024), showcasing their continued innovation with pieces like "Silently Walking Alone," "Atonement," "I Hear the Sirens," and the poignant "Unfree My Soul."

The near three-hour show was a masterclass in musicianship. The band’s tight performance was amplified by stunning lightnings and an electrifying stage presence, keeping the audience enthralled from start to finish.

One of the tour’s most talked-about features, the fan choir showcased in performances of "Faceless," was a perfect touch. This track from their latest album boasts a phenomenal chorus and an epic final refrain. In a stroke of genius, the band decided to invite a group of talented fans (previously selected by a call through social networks) to join them on stage for the song’s climactic ending. The result was nothing short of magical—an already outstanding song became even more powerful with the addition of a dozen enthusiastic fans. Their energy lit up the stage, their excitement contagious, as the audience cheered them on, turning the concert into a celebration of unity and shared passion.

The band took the stage slightly later than the scheduled 8:00 PM start time, with a 15-minute delay. The queue outside the venue was significantly huge, and the narrow sidewalk near the entrance struggled to accommodate the influx of attendees. Despite these minor logistical hiccups, the concert experience as a whole was smooth, well-organized, and highly enjoyable.

The venue deserves recognition as it continues to gain popularity among concertgoers in Madrid. Located in the historic building of the former Estación Norte train station, it offers a unique and practical setting for events. One of its most appealing aspects is the ample space, which prevents overcrowding and ensures excellent visibility from nearly every corner. Additionally, the upper-tier seating provides an elevated view, catering to those seeking a different perspective. Another highlight is the smooth exit process. At the end of the show, the large side doors were promptly opened, allowing the audience to disperse quickly and efficiently—an appreciated touch that added to the overall positive experience.

Leprous’s reputation as trailblazers in the progressive metal genre was reaffirmed that night. Their ability to push musical boundaries while maintaining a profound emotional connection with their listeners sets them apart from their peers. By the time the last chord faded and the lights dimmed, fans were left in awe, visibly moved and buzzing with excitement.

As they left The Music Station, many lingered outside, discussing the incredible journey they had just been a part of. The concert wasn’t just another stop on the band’s tour—it was a transformative experience that left fans inspired, eager to revisit the band’s music and looking forward to the next opportunity to see them live. For those who witnessed it, this evening with Leprous was nothing short of unforgettable.

Here’s a short recap recorded thanks to bassist Simen, to whom I extend my gratitude for including me among those accredited to share the experiences of this great event. Many thanks also to the entire band, it fills me with joy to be able to see the video on their official account as resume of the night!
